Description

The Engino INVENTOR Offroader: Motorized set puts authentic vehicle engineering in kids’ hands. The main off-roader features a functional steering wheel connected to a rack & pinion and linkage system, while a universal joint and 2-speed motor bring the drivetrain to life. Young inventors step beyond styling to study real car systems (engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, steering, and cabin) through concise theory pages and a quick quiz. One model can be built at a time; each rebuild reinforces how parts interact to steer, transmit power, or change speed. Instructions are split between a printed model for 1 model and 10 app-based 3D builds to reduce confusion and encourage independent learning.

What’s in the Box & Why It Matters

  • 284 Engino parts to build 10 models (one at a time) for learning the physics behind motorized vehicles.
  • Power motor (included) which enables realistic motion experiments (forward/reverse, 2 speeds) for hands-on tests of torque, gearing, and traction.
  • Learning booklet filled with physics theories, experiments, quizzes, and printed instructions. Move from building → testing → reflection.
  • Printed instructions for 1 model + 10 online kidCAD (3D Viewer) builds to rotate/zoom/explode views for easier assembly.
  • Double-action extraction tool that enables quick & easy disassembly of small parts helping to iterate-and-improve builds.

Models Kids Can Build

  • Jeep: Drive power to the rear wheels, then use the steering wheel to test tight turns and approach/departure angles by adjusting ride height or wheelbase in rebuilds.
  • Short Truck: Explore how a shorter wheelbase affects maneuverability and stability while keeping the same rack-and-pinion steering and linkage concepts.
  • 30s Classic Car: Use the 2-speed motor to explore speed vs. control, and relate the build to theory on gearboxes and stability differences you get when varying wheelbase.
  • Baja Buggy: Tackle ramps by experimenting with ride height and approach/departure angles; switch motor speed modes to see when slow, torquey climbs beat fast runs.
  • Classic Sports Car: Try lower ride-height setups for smooth, fast surfaces and feel how precise rack-and-pinion steering supports high-speed direction changes.
  • Dragster: Run straight-line trials using the High speed setting; relate the design to theory showing longer wheelbases feel more stable at speed.
  • Dune Racer: Drive over bumps to test breakover angle and traction; the universal joint keeps power flowing to the driven axle even when shafts aren’t perfectly aligned.
  • Off Roader: A showcase of the core systems: rack-and-pinion steering up front, a 2-speed, high-torque motor driving the rear, and forward/reverse for quick recoveries on rough ground.
  • Rescue Vehicle: Practice tight urban turns (short-wheelbase benefits) and use forward/reverse to “dock” precisely, handy for simulated pick-ups in confined spaces.
  • Supercar: Go for high-speed runs using the motor’s High setting and feel how precise steering and the right wheelbase choice affect stability at speed.

Who It’s For

  • Curious kids (ages 9+) who love to build, disassemble, and ask “but why?”
  • Parents & grandparents who want meaningful gifts with lasting value; hands-on tinkering, together or independently.
  • Teachers & homeschoolers seeking ready-to-use STEM kits that bring science and engineering concepts to life.
  • STEM clubs & after-school programs looking for engaging projects that inspire collaboration and creativity.
  • Science fairs where students need high-quality models to demonstrate real-world engineering principles.

Learning Benefits

  • Steering Mechanics: See how a rack & pinion converts rotational input to linear motion to turn the wheels accurately.
  • Power Transmission: Observe how a universal joint and gear train send power even at angles, mirroring real drivetrains.
  • Speed vs. Torque: Experiment with the 2-speed, high-torque gearbox and forward/reverse to understand trade-offs in gearing.
  • Vehicle Dynamics: Use rebuilds to explore ride height, wheelbase, and ramp angles, key ideas behind off-road performance.
  • 3D/CAD Literacy: The kidCAD (3D Viewer) app’s rotate/zoom steps build spatial reasoning and a first feel for CAD-style building.

This is such a fun STEM kit for my 5 year old. He absolutely loved it, he created the model with my husband and they had lots of fun.the instructions were easy to follow on the iPad.

Once they had created it , he kept going back to play. He also took it apart and tried to make other things which was great to see as it showed how much he enjoyed the toy and it made his mind more active.

Once he made the toy it was very sturdy to play with and he loved making lots of different scenarios with other toys

Such a great you for playing and I would highly recommend checking out the full range

I got this for my son, something to do over the half term

It arrived fast on removing the parts i was super impressed with quality of the parts, the instructions and the interaction available on his iPad, it did at first look complicated but once all the parts are out and you follow the instructions which where printed well its not rocket science ( well not yet but your young budding builder may ask for a rocket kit next 😆)

This kit can be used to build several different items but my son opted for the off reader

STEM toys and kits are designed for just that to attract young children to science, technology engineering and math. Children feel like they are playing, but get the added thrill of actually doing or building something significant and challenging their minds and cognitive thinking.

At £54.99 (at time of review) its on part with cost of another well known brand of technic building blocks. I highly recommend this kit to anyone who wants their child to have fun and learn at the same time

Well worth the money, this kit provided hours of fun for me and my 9 year old.
Lots of designs and modes and this kit takes patience but there are clear instructions included. You have a wide choice of configurations. Reckon on an hour - 90 mins to build each possibility. It has a central motorised unit and even rack and pinion steering

FAQs

What is the appropriate age to play with ENGINO?

The ENGINO system has been tested with children with the association of teachers and the department of Education of the University of Cyprus. It has been found that small models can be built even by 5 years old children. Bigger and complex models are more suited to 8-12 year olds, and our robotics and mega sets are targeting both youngsters and grown-ups as being more hobby items.

What if I lose some parts or manuals? Can I get replacements?

You can buy parts, instructions and books at a very low price from our online shop.

How is the quantity of parts compared to value for money?

Usually construction toys refer to the number of parts contained in a set as an indication of the set's building value. With ENGINO system this reference does not actually apply because the system is unique and the design of the parts allows multiple connectivity in all directions at the same time. As a result, there is no need for intermediate connectors between rods while ENGINO rods are also connectors! The ENGINO system can be described as a combination of the brick system and the spatial "connectors and rod" system. As of that, with ENGINO to build a model you only need around half the parts that you would require with any other conventional system! Furthermore, as ENGINO parts are bigger, the model is also bigger and more manageable. Parts are not easily lost and sets can combine together to create an infinite number of builds. Because the "number of parts" is actually misleading, we have introduced a new term called "connecting points" that indicates how many connections are possible with the particular parts contained in each set.
